Backup

Backups are images of the main disk (Root) of the instance and contain a copy of its data at the moment of creating the backup. Using the backup feature, you can automatically and weekly backup the instance on the system level to create a new one. To access this feature, you can go to the Arvancloud user panel and then Cloud Server > Disk Management > Backup.

Enable Backup

Enter the "Backup" section in the cloud server menu to activate the backup.

On this page, click on the "Enable Backup" button, and in the new window, select the instance from which you want to create backups weekly and assign a name to it at the end.

Note that the first backup is prepared no later than 24 hours after activation, and subsequent backups are prepared weekly. Also, each instance has 5 backup slots, and after the slots are full, the newest backup is automatically saved on the older slot.

Create Instance from Backup

You can use the backups as the base image of a new instance. This feature will be useful in cases where you want to create one or more virtual machines with the same data and settings as the original instance or to check and restore some old files.

To do this, select the desired slot in the list of backups and use the operation menu, select the option "Create Instance".

After that, you will be directed to the process of creating an instance.

Also, if you have a backup file in a data center, you can proceed directly through the instance creation process and select it as the base image in the "OS Selection" stage and the "Backup" section.

Upload Backup to Object Storage

Object Storage is a platform for storing files and data, where you can store your files without the need for tools or physical infrastructure, and when you need your data, you can access them from anywhere only by connecting to the Internet.

Keeping and saving backup files in several places and storage spaces can reduce the possibility of data loss to almost zero. You can easily and directly transfer your backup to the Object Storage using the "Upload in Cloud Storage" option.

In the window that opens, you need to select the provider, region, and bucket.

Currently, uploading a backup is only possible in the Arvancloud Object Storage.

Depending on the size of a backup, this process may take time.

Edit Backup

You can always rename backups for better and easier management. You can also add labels to them and delete or edit them whenever you need.

Delete and Disable Backup

Disabling an instance backup will stop automatic backups of that instance's data and delete all existing backups. If there are backups you want to save, you can upload them to ArvanCloud Object storage before disabling backup.

You can then use the "Disable Backup" option next to its name.

Note that after deactivating the backup of an instance, it is not possible to reactivate it for 24 hours.

When you don't need the data of one or more slots of the backups, you can delete them using the delete option.

By deleting the information of a slot, that slot will remain empty until new data is automatically placed on it during the weekly backup process.

Note that if you have previously transferred a slot to the Object Storage, this backup file remains there and must be deleted independently when needed.
