Instance

ArvanCloud’s cloud servers are called Instance. These servers are available to users in different configurations. You can create and manage Instances through the ArvanCloud user panel.

Create an Instance

To create one, log into your ArvanCloud user panel. Click on Cloud Server to be directed to the Instances list. Then, click on New Instance.

Select Datacenter

You can select a data center from the list provided by ArvanCloud. Please note that the data center you choose must be accessible.

Then, click on Continue.

Select Image

Here, you can choose an Image for your Instance. The Image can be a standard OS created by ArvanCloud, a custom OS made by the user, a snapshot, a backup, or an Image in the ArvanCloud Marketplace.

Once you have selected your Image, click on Continue.

Select Instance Size

Here, you need to assign the required resources to your Instance. For this purpose, you can use the default scale for storage and CPU or set up your custom scale. You can see the default resources and their prices or change the resource amount and see the pricing for the custom scale.

After this selection, click on Continue.

Select Instance Disk

In this section, you can choose the volume type and size or add disk to your instance.

Advance Settings

In this section, you can manage your Instance’s advance settings. If you do not need to change anything here, you can leave them to remain as the default settings and move on to the next part. The settings include:

Accessibility Type

If you create your Instance using a Linux distribution, you can determine its Accessibility Type. There are two types of accessibility; one is an SSH Key, and the other is a one-time password. The SSH Key is the safer method to access your Instance. You can go to the Keys section of your Instance to manage or create your passwords.

Network

Choose your preferred IP version between IPv4 and IPv6 to connect to your Instance. Currently, it is not possible to choose IPv6.

If you have already created a private network, here, you can add it to your instance.

Firewall

Your Instance will have the default firewall settings activated once it is created. However, you can change the firewall settings if needed. If you already have a firewall group before creating your Instance, you can activate it for your Instance. You can also make changes to the settings in the Firewall section of your user panel later.

More Options

You can configure your initial script and PowerOn Policy in this section. By using the initial script, You can add a User Data script to execute it automatically and only once while creating an instance. This feature helps you customize your server during the build process.

By activating PowerOn Policy, your instance will automatically turn on if the cloud server was shut down due to unexpected issues, such as a physical failure.

Once you are done with your Advance Settings, you can click on Continue.

Final Review

In the final step of creating an Instance, you can decide the number of Instances that you need or change the name.

Here, you can also see the price for the Instance you are creating. Click on Continue, and a new window that includes the username and password will open. This information will be sent to your email as well.

Please note that once you close this window, you cannot access the login information for your Instance through the user panel again.

Finally, you can access your cloud servers’ list through the Instances list section of your user panel.

Managing Instances

You can manage and categorize your Instances according to the data center in this section. You can turn your Instance on or off, resize, delete or use the Rescue mode.

You can see the details of each Instance by clicking on its name or the ... in front of it, as illustrated in the picture below.

Connecting Console to Instance

You can directly connect to an instance Console by clicking on the Console option in front of the Instance’s name.

Clicking on this option will open a new login window to the Instance in which you can enter the required information to access your Instance.

Turning On/ Off and Restarting

As illustrated in the picture, click on the ON / OFF option in the Instance page of your user panel and then click on Confirm.

When turning off an instance, two options will be available to you:

  • Terminate Mode : In this mode, only your IP and disk will remain reserved in the infrastructure after shutdown. This may take more time to restart your instances. Also, only IP and disk costs will be deducted from your wallet during the time that the instance is off.

  • Stop Mode : In this mode, in addition to the cost of the disk and IP, the cost of RAM and CPU will also be deducted from your wallet, but due to the reservation of all resources, as soon as you turn it on again, your instance will be quickly launched and usable.

To restart an instance, click on Actions in the Instance section of your user panel and select Restart.

Resizing

In case you need to increase your Instance’s performance or storage space, you can increase resources like RAM, CPU, and Disk Storage. This is called Vertical Scaling. For this purpose, go to the Cloud Computing section of your user panel and then click on Instance. Click on your selected Instance and then choose the Resizing option from the menu.

Make sure you turn the Instance off before changing its scaling.

In the open window, you can use default plans to increase your Instance resources or you can increase them according to your needs by the custom option.

Please note that resizing your Instance means that it must be restarted.

Creating a Snapshot

You can get a snapshot either from the ArvanCloud user panel's Snapshot section or the Instance Section. For this purpose, you need to select the Instance name you want to get a snapshot from and click on Create Snapshot.

Then, choose a name for your snapshot. The name can only include English letters, numbers, hyphens, and periods. Once you click on Confirm, the process will begin. It takes 1 minute for every GB used disk.

We recommend that you turn off your Instance prior to taking a snapshot. You can manage and access your snapshot from the Snapshot section in the Cloud Server part of your user panel.

Instance Tagging

You can categorize your servers by tagging your Instances. This and the filter features are available on the Instance page which allows for efficient Instance management.

To tag an Instance, click on the Action option in front of the Instance name and select Tag.

Then, add your tags and confirm them to have them assigned to your Instance. You can also use your previous tags that are at the bottom of the window.

Rescue Mode

If you cannot access your instance because of a loss of login info or OS disruption, you can use Rescue Mode to solve your problem. Select the Rescue Mode from the Action menu in front of the Instance name.

Please note that you need to turn the Rescue Mode off once your issue is resolved.

Delete Instance

To delete an Instance, go to Instance under the Cloud Server section of your user panel, then click on Delete Instance.

On the opened window, you are asked to enter a phrase to confirm Instance deletion. You can also share the reason for deleting the Instance with us. When you select Force Delete Server, it will not be possible to recover your Instance after its deletion. This option must be selected when deleting a private network. After this deletion, you will continue to be charged the price of the allocated resources. Therefore, you need to delete all of the Instance resources to stop being charged.
