Buckets

This is one of the most important concepts in Arvancloud’s Object Storage. These buckets are storage spaces in which objects are stored to help you manage your objects.

Here, the how-to of working with the buckets will be explained.

Create a Bucket

Click Add Bucket in the Arvancloud user panel.

Bucket Name

Enter your preferred name in the opened window. The bucket name should include: Capital and small letters.

  • You cannot use characters like period (.) and question mark (?).

  • The name should be longer than 3 characters.

  • The bucket name must be the same throughout the Arvancloud account. If you use a repeated name, you will receive the error of “A bucket with this name already exists.”

Private and Public Access

Now, you need to define the access for the objects on the bucket. This Arvancloud feature allows you to determine whether your users can access certain objects through a link or through authentication. And if they apply changes to those objects. This access limit can be defined for both objects and the bucket itself. Private Access will ensure the security of objects, while Public Access allows your objects to be changed without authentication. We recommend you enforce private access for a bucket that contains your important objects so that all of the objects can only be accessed through authentication. The bucket is created in private mode by default. To activate public access, define the name and activate its public access option.

You can later change the access back in this bucket or other ones.

Then, after choosing the name and permission type click Add. now, the bucket is created.

Manage Your Buckets

The Buckets section of your account provides you with various management tools. Here, you can set the permission mode to public or private, examine your current buckets, and delete or manage their objects.

Change Permission

Change the Public Access Status option in front of the bucket name. Activation will allow public access, and deactivation will allow private access only. Please note that this change will not be applied to all of the objects present in the bucket.

Delete Bucket

To delete, first, you need to remove all of the objects in the bucket. Then, click the Delete option in front of the bucket name and confirm.

You cannot delete a bucket when its objects are not removed.

Manage Tags

You can manage your buckets better with this Arvancloud feature. To define a tag, click on the Action menu in front of the bucket. Then, select Manage Tags to define a name and value for your tags.

Click on Add New Tag to create a new tag for your bucket. Finally, apply the changes to assign your tags to your bucket.

CDN Caching Settings

This feature means that the Arvancloud CDN Service can cache the content in your bucket. You can change the cache duration settings when the caching is activated or purge the cached content from the CDN service.

Static Website

Our Object Storage feature allows you to host a static website. A static website contains pages with static content, unlike dynamic websites where the content needs to be processed by the server and ASP.NET and PHP scripts.

When configuring your bucket as a static website, the endpoint address matches the bucket’s region. The website’s endpoints are different from the endpoints for API requests.

Depending on your region, your website’s endpoint can be used like the following:

If you have configured the index object in your bucket, the endpoint address will open the main webpage by default.

Please note that to access the website’s endpoint, you need to enable public access for all of the content. There is no need to change the access setting for the bucket.

To activate the static website feature, follow the these steps.

  1. Create a bucket with your preferred name.
  2. Upload your website’s object. Make sure there are index.html and error.html objects in the uploaded objects. Also, change the source name if it has changed.
  3. Activate public access for objects that will be visible to your users.
  4. Select Statis from the action menu in front of the bucket name.
  5. Activate the static mode. Now, the endpoint URL is activated for the bucket.
  6. Enter the source and the error object of your choice. If these two are not defined, the system will choose index.html and error.html for them.
  7. Apply the changes to access your static content and manage it.

Please note that this process can take a while to apply the changes.

Manage Objects

You can upload your desired objects to the bucket and manage them. Here is how:

Upload Objects

Open the bucket and click on the Upload option.

You can upload your objects in two ways.

First Method: Direct Upload

You can upload a local object directly from your system. Click on Browse and select the object to upload.

If your object has been uploaded on the internet, enter the URL in the upload section and select confirm to upload it.

After choosing one of the methods, you can enter the object’s name and determine the access type. Then, select upload, and the process will begin.

Delete objects

Open the uploaded object window from the bucket and click on the Delete option in front of the name.

You cannot recover the objects once you remove them.

Change Object’s Permission

You can activate the Public Access option for any object you have uploaded to your bucket anytime.

Quick Share

If you need to use a direct URL for the uploaded objects in Arvancloud’s Object Storage, click on the Quick Share option on the objects page.

This link will share the object according to the access type.

Download

You can download your bucket’s objects anytime to store them locally. Simply click on the Download option in front of the object name.

Manage Tags

Tags are one of the practical features of Arvancloud’s Object Storage. You can manage your bucket more efficiently using tags.

Open the action menu before the bucket name to define a tag. Then, select Manage Tags to open the Create a Tag window. Here, you can specify a name and value for your tags.

After filling in the information, select Add New Tag. Finally, click the Apply button to apply the tags to the bucket.
